You can browse panels, colors, the roof visualizer, and the measuring tools without ever creating an account. If you do create one, it and any quote requests you make while signed in sync to SMS Metal's own secure server, so your history follows you to a new phone and our office can see requests as they come in. Requests made without signing in never leave the device.
Your password itself is never saved anywhere — not on your phone and not on our server. The app turns it into a scrambled, one-way fingerprint (a salted PBKDF2-SHA256 hash) and sends only that fingerprint over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Our server scrambles it a second time with its own key before storing it. Nobody, including us, can read your password back out of any of this.
Signing in keeps your quote requests grouped under your name, fills in your contact details on new requests so you don't retype them, and syncs your history across your devices. Staff accounts, unlocked with a code from the office, can see every quote request that comes in so sales can respond. We do not build advertising profiles and do not track you across other apps or websites.
Quote requests you make while signed in sync to our server, so they follow you across devices. Aerial measurements, saved customers, favorite colors, and roof visualizer photos stay only in the app's private storage on your iPhone — they are never uploaded. Quote requests made without signing in also stay on your device.
The camera and photo library are used for one purpose: adding a picture of a building so you can preview panel profiles and finishes on it. The photo is processed on your device and stays there. It only leaves your phone if you choose to share or email it yourself.
If you allow location access, your position is used only to center the aerial roof tracer on the job site you are standing at. Your coordinates are not stored by us and are never transmitted to SMS Metal.
Satellite imagery, address lookup, and directions are provided by Apple Maps. Searches you type are handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. SMS Metal does not receive them.
When you email or share a quote request, the PDF and message are sent using your own mail or share app — you pick the recipient and can review the contents first. SMS Metal uses the information you send only to prepare and price the material request you asked for, and to contact you about that job.
The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no App Tracking Transparency prompts, because there is nothing to track. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with data brokers.
The app is free to use. It contains no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no paywalls, and no payment processing of any kind. It never asks for card or billing details, and it does not display prices.
You control everything the app stores. Delete any individual quote request, measurement, or customer at any time. Your whole account can be deleted from inside the app under Account — that removes it from this iPhone and from our server, and you choose whether the quote requests synced to it are deleted with it or left behind. Removing the app from your iPhone deletes all remaining app data on the device, including saved photos and PDFs.
The app is a professional tool for roofing contractors, builders, and property owners. It is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
